The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed forward Dmitry Ovchinnikov to a three-year entry level contract, beginning with the 2021-22 season. Ovchinnikov will join the Toronto Marlies immediately upon the approval of his Canadian work permits.
Ovchinnikov, 19, has posted 29 points (13G, 16A) in 22 games with the Sibirskie Snaipery Novosibirsk (MHL) this season. The Chita, Russia product has also recorded three points (1G, 2A) in 17 games with the Sibir Novosibirsk (KHL) during the 2021-22 season. Ovchinnikov has skated in 156 career MHL games with Sibirskie Snaipery and posted 142 points (59G, 83A). He has also appeared in 35 career KHL games with Sibir and recorded four points (1G, 3A).
Ovchinnikov was originally selected by Toronto in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft.
