@Account4Hockey: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 590: “Leafs making lots of calls, thinks Brown is getting shopped – asking price 2nd, thinks they’ll ask teams for Marner packages though they don’t want to trade him, there’s been internal debate on merits of trading Kadri. Not afraid to be bold.” (not a direct quote from Friedman)
Jim Matheson: Former Edmonton Oilers interim GM Keith Gretzky may have laid the groundwork for a Connor Brown trade back in February. He could be a third-line possibility for the Oilers. If it’s a dollar-for-dollar deal, maybe it involves defenseman Matt Benning.
Toronto Maple Leafs bracing for activity. Telling teams they will listen on Kapanen and Kadri. Would need a D back in a Kapanen trade and a centre back for Kadri. Strong sense Connor Brown could go as well.

In addition, Kyle Dubas is expected to meet with Mitch Marner’s agent, Darren Ferris in Vancouver. What’s unknown is if Dubas will formally table a contract offer. https://t.co/8jkImcDCpe

Vancouver Canucks being linked to Nikita Zaitsev in trade rumours:
Benning: “We’d still like to try and add a player, whether it’s through trade or free agency, to our backend.”

I’m told Carolina and Toronto recently had a chat about a deal involving Kapanen and Brown going to the ‘Canes in a package involving Pesce. But I don’t think Carolina wants to move Pesce at this point. That could change of course ... https://t.co/FqTP93MDpQ

It is beyond doubt that Patrick Marleau would covet a return to San Jose. And the Sharks may potentially have interest but they’ve got higher priority items to figure out now in trying to re-sign pending UFAs Pavelski, Thornton, plus RFA star Meier.... so on back burner for now

@Prospects_Watch: Elliotte Friedman said on Sportsnet 590 that the Toronto Maple Leafs have told Mitch Marner that if he wants a big number – $11 million AAV – it is going to have to be for eight years. Marner’s camp is not ready to do that.
@Account4Hockey: Friedman on Sportsnet 590 believes that they will ask teams for Marner trade packages even though they don’t want to trade him.
@Prospects_Watch: Darren Dreger on TSN 1050 said that the Maple Leafs will need to start at, at least $10.5 million to get contract talks going with Mitch Marner’s camp.
@Account4hockey: Nick Kypreos on Sportsnet 590 said that after the Erik Karlsson and Jeff Skinner deals, Mitch Marner will only take $11 million plus. There is no progress being made.
Marner’s camp feels there will be an offer sheet. The Leafs will make an offer before or at the draft one last time and then call the bluff on the offer sheet.
Maple Leafs Hot Stove: Darren Dreger on TSN 1050 on the Mitch Marner situation.
“There are ongoing discussions with Marner, Ferris and Dubas, but not negotiations. They have done a nice job of keeping it amicable and I don’t think that is going to change. I suspect that is the same with Kasperi Kapanen and Andreas Johnsson. That is what the manager has to do — keep those lines of communication open.”
DragLikePull: “The more I think about it, the less a Marner trade makes sense to me. I have a hard time seeing there being a team that’s willing to give Marner the same contract as Matthews and give the Leafs major assets to make it happen. That’s too much to give up.”
On the offer sheet front, Dubas stressed how important Marner/Kapanen/Johnsson are to #Leafs, and that team hopes to keep them all as long as they can, but without knowing the details of a potential offer sheet, hard to say definitively what the #Leafs would do in each case
