Elliotte Friedman via twitter: Yesterday was the deadline to accept qualifying offers, but Shea Weber and the Predators agreed to extend it until August 1st. This allows both sides flexibility as they can continue to negotiate. Accepting the qualifying offer means they are not able to discuss a contract extension until the New Year.
Brian McNally of the Washington Examiner: Capitals defenseman Mike Green declined the teams qualifying offer of $5 million. Green had until 5 pm yesterday to accept the offer. Contract discussions with Green’s agent, Craig Oster, will continue, and according to once source, they’ve been going well.
“I think when you’re sort of negotiating in good faith and trying to get it done. I don’t think anybody’s trying to squeeze anybody on the other side,” McPhee said on Saturday. “And so in some ways [July 15th is] an artificial deadline. I think we’ve had healthy discussions with both players and there are deals to be made there…I think that’s something we’ll get done sooner than later and they’ll be deals that we can live with and they can live with.”
The Fourth Period: A source told TFP that Shane Doan is not expected to sign with Buffalo. GM Darcy Regier is still looking to make a trade, but nothing is imminent.
David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News: The Sharks are still in the hunt for Shane Doan.
“Yes, very much so,” responded agent Terry Bross in an email after being asked if San Jose was still on Doan’s list of potential landing spots. “He is very intrigued should things not work out here.”
There have been reports that the Kings and Sharks have offers on the table for Doan. The Canucks are also thought to be in the running.

George Richards of the Miami Herald: Panthers GM Dale Tallon said there has been no progress on contract talks with Kris Versteeg. Versteeg filed for salary arbitration. The Panthers would like to sign him to a long term deal, though it doesn’t sound like it will happen before the hearing.
Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington: Alexander Semin is still available. Would the Capitals be interested?
“I’ve never really discussed that sort of thing, whether we’re going to sign someone or not,” Capitals general manager George McPhee said Saturday on the final day of development camp.
“I’d rather not start now. I know that’s not a great answer, but I’ll just stay neutral.”
When asked if the it’s a surprise that Semin is still available, McPhee said: “Not necessarily. It would have to be the right fit for him.” The Penguins and Hurricanes have shown interest, but apparently Semin is holding out for a 2 year, $5 million deal.
St. Louis Post Dispatch: Jeremy Rutherford: The Blues have been looking for defenseman, and GM Doug Armstrong continues to the explore the trade market. He’s not looking to trade roster players, only draft picks. Andy Strickland: Carlo Colaiacovo still hasn’t been signed, but Strickland has been told they want to do something bigger.
Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province: The Blackhawks have had discussions with the Canucks about Roberto Luongo, reportedly dangling Dave Bolland.
L.A. Lariviere via twitter: The Canadiens will soon sign 1st round pick Alex Galchenyuk according to his agent, Igor Larionov. Larionov expects Galchenyuk to play in the NHL next year, “My strong thought is he’ll play in the NHL”
BD Gallof via twitter: There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that the Islanders have a trade offer or an interest in Scott Gomez.
Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: The Avalanche letting Peter Mueller go for nothing could easily come back and bit them in the rear. The Avs had let Tomas Fleischmann go for nothing in 2011, and he put up 61 points in 82 games last year.
