L.A. Lariviere via twitter: Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier said that he asked to be traded near the deadline, and the Kings refused. He expects to be traded close to home around the start of training camp.
Lisa Dillman via twitter: Dillman doesn’t think the the Kings will be trading Bernier now or in the near future. His trade value is extremely low at the moment.
NHL.com: Bernier to TVA Sports:
“I asked the Kings to trade me before the trade deadline, but they refused,” Bernier said. “Now that Jonathan Quick signed a long-term deal, I expect to be traded before training camp starts.”
Rich Hammond of LA Kings Insider: If the Kings get an offer they like for Bernier that would help the team in the long run, they would likely trade him. If they don’t like the offers, they won’t. Bernier said the Kings “refused” to trade at the deadline. The Kings did talk to several teams at the deadline, but didn’t like the offers they got. Yes, the re-signing of Quick increases the chances that Bernier could be traded in the short term, but it doesn’t guarantee anything.
Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: Flyers Scott Hartnell is entering the last year of his 6 year, $25.5 million deal.
“Scott would welcome coming back; he loves it in Philadelphia,” his agent, Matt Oates, said. “But we haven’t had any contact with the Flyers just yet.”
The Flyers usually start contract extension talks with players they are interested in re-signing a year out, and they’ll probably be doing it soon with Hartnell. A new CBA in September may change how some teams act, possibly delaying a signing.
Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: It’s “the quiet period” according to Red Wings GM Ken Holland. There have only been 4 players since July 5th that have signed for over a $1 million. The Wings remain in contact with Shane Doan, but the odds remain that he’ll re-sign with the Coyotes. Alexander Semin is still available, but teams are wary of his high skill, low production and lax attitude.
The Toronto Sun: Any team could sign Shea Weber to an offer sheet, but it’s likely they would match any deal. It’s likely the Predators will sign him to a long term deal or trade him.
Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News: Sabres GM Darcy Regier and coach Lindy Ruff met twice last month with Dominik Hasek, but have told Hasek they will be staying with Ryan Miller and Jhonas Enroth in goal.
“One thing I am sure of: [Hasek] has no doubt in his mind that he can play,” Regier told reporters Thursday night during a break in the team’s development camp scrimmage. “I think it probably gives him a little bit of lift seeing somebody like [Martin] Brodeur play at 40 in the Stanley Cup final. I know better than to question Dom’s desire and his ability. Unfortunately, it’s not something that was going to fit here.”
There were several internet reports that he was seeking a multi-year deal.
Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun: Senators GM Bryan Murray has spoke with Daniel Alfredsson a couple times, with last week being the most recent.
“Still no final decision on anything, but very definitely a good conversation, if I can say that. I’m just waiting to find out for sure which way we are going to go.”
“We just talked about the team, we talked about what was happening around the team, the additions and subtractions,” said Murray. “So that tells me there’s some real interest on his part, in knowing what’s going on, and I think it’s as a player. I don’t think it’s in the off-ice part of his career at this point in time.”
Greg Krupa of the Detroit News: Red Wings GM Ken Holland:
“So, I don’t know if people think we’re going to have major announcements this year, next year and the year after. The league doesn’t work like that.
“I’m confident, at some point — and it might be next year or the year after — that the history, the tradition, the commitment of our ownership, the passion of our fans, is going to all add up to having an opportunity to bring a player of significance here.”
According to a Swedish website, Tomas Holmstrom said several team have shown an interest. Holland intends to speak with Holmstrom soon.
Dave Lozo via twitter: Newly signed Panther Peter Mueller said he had other offers, but the Panthers pushed the hardest to get him.
Stephen Whyno of the Washington Times: Capitals Wojtek Wolski has been told they play to use him in a top 6 role.
Luke Fox of Sportsnet: Fox looks at 6 teams that could trade for Rick Nash. Boston Bruins: They still believe they are a contender and could take a run at their 2nd cup in 3 years. Tyler Seguin, Milan Lucic, and Dougie Hamilton would likely be targeted by the Blue Jackets. Detroit Red Wings: The Wings lost out on Suter, Parise, Salo, Carle and Schultz and have the cap room to add Nash. They have prospects Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar that might interest the Blue Jackets. They may not be interested as they have a bigger hole on the blueline. Alexander Semin is still available and may be a short term fix. Why would the Blue Jackets trade within their division? New York Rangers: The Rangers have lots of young talent and the Blue Jackets are reportedly interested in Ryan McDonagh and Chris Kreider. They don’t score a lot of goals and will be without Marian Gaborik for a bit as he recovers from shoulder surgery. They may not do a deal because they may not find it worth giving up so many young assets. Philadelphia Flyers: The Flyers have the assets (Sean Couturier and/or Brayden Schenn) to make a deal that could improve their chances on getting a cup now. May not happen as they likely won’t want to trade Schenn since they traded for his brother. They may not want to give up Couturier since the moved a young forward in James van Riemsdyk to the Leafs. Pittsburgh Penguins: The trade of Jordan Staal means they have more ice available for an impact forward. Sidney Crosby could use a scoring winger. The Pens could be worried what the Rangers and Flyers would be like if they had Nash. Deal breaker could be Paul Martin. The Pens may have to move his salary in a deal, but the Blue Jackets seem to be looking for forwards over defenseman. It’s doubtful that Martin and prospects would be enough. San Jose Sharks: They are deep in forwards, and the Blue Jackets like Logan Couture. The Sharks don’t want to include Couture. Would the Sharks be willing to a accept a deal included Ryane Clowe instead of Couture?
