Renaud Lavoie via twitter: The Panthers have signed Peter Mueller to a 1 year, $1.725 million deal.
Josh Cooper of the Tennessean: Predators GM David Poile on Shea Weber:
“I talked to (his agent) Jarrett (Bousquet) yesterday and had a good conversation,” Poile said.
“Shea and all his friends and people will be together this weekend for his charity golf tournament in his name in Sicamous (British Columbia). They’re going to be doing that and then we’re going to talk next week.”
“It’s all about talking about Shea and to see if we can get him signed to a longer-term contract with the Predators,” Poile said. “My conversations have always been very positive with Shea, his role and his future with the organization in terms of where the franchise is going.”
Dave Stubbs via twitter: P.K. Subban’s agent, Don Meehan, said last night that there is nothing to report on contract talks between Subban and the Canadiens.
Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The Penguins are still searching for a top 6 forward to likely play with Sidney Crosby. It’s possible they could look within the organization, such as Tyler Kennedy, Eric Tangradi or Beau Bennett. The best UFA available are Shane Doan and Alexander Semin.
Mike Heika via twitter: Stars center Derek Roy had shoulder surgery yesterday and will be out until November. Roy had shoulder pain last year and played through it, and he planned to do the same this year. The Stars felt it was time to fix it. Jerry Sullivan via twitter: Sullivan notes that Roy’s surgery raises serious issues about the way the Sabres deal with injuries.
Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun: The Senators could still use some more physical players to round out their roster after the departure of Matt Carkner and Zenon Konopka. 3 UFAs that might help are Brad Winchester, Zack Stortini and Matt Bradley.
David Pollak via twitter: The Sharks have signed Marc-Edouard Vlasic to a 5 year deal. Jesse Spector via twitter: The 5 year deal is for $21 million.
Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Kovacevic doesn’t get the sense that the Penguins are that keen on Alexander Semin. The Penguins preference may be to find a young 20 goal scored on someone’s roster for one of their young defensemen, similar how they got James Neal. The Oilers could be a perfect partner. The Penguins could send Shane Doan a big one year offer to give GM Ray Shero another year to find his next Neal.
Josh Cooper of the Tennessean: Ryan Suter believes he was straight forward with the Predators during his contract talks.
“It’s something that happened. And the fact that I do get to be close to home with my wife and my kid, for me to be close to home, it all worked out,” Suter said. “It was no agenda, and that’s how it played out.”
“I have never tried to hide anything from anybody,” Suter said. “I wanted it to work in Nashville, but the decision I made was to move on, and I’m sorry for the hurt that it has brought to David Poile and to the Predators.”
Suter said he never promised Poile the last chance at him in negotiations.
Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington: The Capitals have signed Zach Hamill to a 1 year, 2 way contract.
Ansar Khan via twitter: Red Wings GM Ken Holland said there will be 2 Winter Classic alumni games.

Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: Dallas Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk said yesterday that he’s had talks with Brenden Morrow, and that he expects him to be a big part of the Stars next season. There has been speculation that Morrow could be traded after the signings of Ray Whitney and Jaromir Jagr. Morrow’s spot on the roster could be on the 3rd line.
“There’s nothing written in stone, so I’m not saying he would play there, but I also think that he could play a very important part of our team in a role like that,” Nieuwendyk said. “He would bring a lot of the grit that we need there, and I still think would play in a role that would allow him to score some goals. It would also allow him to maybe stay fresher.”
Morrow wants to stay a Star, and talks about the speculation:
“You asked me: Do I want to be a Dallas Star, and the answer is definitely yes,” Morrow said. “If they want to trade me or they indicate to me that they don’t want me, then obviously I don’t want to be there or stand in their way. But, until they say that they want to trade me or ask me to waive my no-trade clause, then I’m excited to be on the team and I’m ready to get going next season.”
Mike Brophy of Sportsnet.ca: So the Leafs could be comfortable going with James Reimer and Ben Scrivens if they can’t land Roberto Luongo or any other capable veteran. Despite saying initially that they needed veteran, Burke has been backpedaling. Who will step forward to take the reins as the #1 has yet to be determined.
Don Brennan via twitter: The Senators have signed Chris Neil to a 3 year contract extension, believed to be worth $5.75 million.
Jeremy Rutherford via twitter: Jamie Langenbrunner signed a 1 year extension with the Blues.
