Game 30: Toronto Maple Leafs vs Detroit Red Wings

Petry scores 1st goal of season, Red Wings edge Maple Leafs

Jeff Petry scored his first goal of the season to help the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-2 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday.

Michael Rasmussen, Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond also scored for the Red Wings, who got two goals from defensemen. Ville Husso made 23 saves for Detroit (12-14-4), which had lost six of seven.

“That’s a huge win, because we’re just trying to find some traction,” Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said. “They had their A-game tonight, and it wasn’t much different than some other games we had in that 0-3-2 stretch.”

Mitch Marner had two assists for Toronto (18-10-2), which had won five of seven.

“I thought we created a lot of offense, but they blocked a lot of shots,” Marner said. “They got into transition on us and made some great plays to score on us.”

Joseph Woll made 22 saves.

“It came down to one goal,” he said. “I wish I could have gotten one of the last two and given us a chance.”

Rasmussen gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead at 9:07, scoring on a redirection of Petry’s point shot through traffic.
