Jarnkrok breaks tie early in 3rd, Maple Leafs top Flames
Calle Jarnkrok scored 2:20 into the third period, and the Toronto Maple Leafs won 2-1 against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday.
Jarnkrok tucked in a rebound at the right post after Morgan Rielly was stopped on a breakaway.
Mitchell Marner scored, Auston Matthews had an assist, and Joseph Woll made 25 saves for the Maple Leafs (38-16-8), who have won four of their past five.
Defensemen Erik Gustafsson and Luke Schenn each made their debuts for Toronto after being acquired on Tuesday.
Blake Coleman scored, and Jacob Markstrom made 32 saves for the Flames (27-22-13), who have lost four in a row and five of six.
Coleman gave Calgary a 1-0 lead at 3:32 of the first period while short-handed, scoring high blocker side on a breakaway.
Marner tied it 1-1 at 7:36 of the second period when he scored five-hole after stickhandling around Milan Lucic and Rasmus Andersson through the slot.
Nazem Kadri thought he restored the Flames’ lead with a wrist shot from the left face-off circle on a power play at 8:45, but video review determined Kadri preceded the puck into the offensive zone.
Markstrom then kept it tied by making a right pad save on a wraparound attempt by Matthews at 16:12, and a left pad save on William Nylander’s wrist shot on a breakaway with 37 seconds left in the period.
