Nylander lifts Maple Leafs past Wild in OT
William Nylander scored 1:05 into overtime to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 2-1 win against the Minnesota Wild at Scotiabank Arena on Friday.
Nylander stole the puck from Frederick Gaudreau near the boards, cut around Matt Boldy in the left face-off circle and shot from the top of the goal crease.
David Kampf scored, Nylander had an assist, and Ilya Samsonov made 24 saves for the Maple Leafs (36-15-8), who are 4-1-0 in their past five games.
Brandon Duhaime scored, and Filip Gustavsson made 22 saves for the Wild (32-21-6), whose four-game winning streak ended. They won 2-0 at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.
Duhaime made it 1-0 at 12:10 of the first period when he banked a shot off Samsonov’s skate from below the goal line.
Kampf tied it 1-1 at 16:07 when he one-timed a pass at the side of the crease from Nylander, who was behind the net.
