Frederik Andersen made 31 saves, and Morgan Rielly scored twice to help the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-0 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday.
Toronto (9-5-0) won for the first time in three games without Auston Matthews, who is out with a shoulder injury. John Tavares had a goal and an assist, and Patrick Marleau and Zach Hyman also scored for the Maple Leafs.
The shutout was Andersen’s first this season and 16th of his NHL career. He has stopped 67 of 68 shots in two games against the Penguins this season, including 36 of 37 in a 3-0 loss Oct. 18.
“It’s a tough building against a really good team,” Andersen said. “It’s an extra bonus and I’m happy with the win. Get back on track here. … We have to build on it. We have to start stringing them together again. Hopefully this will be a good lesson for us to see how good we can come out.”
Total team effort powers Leafs past Penguins in Pittsburgh.
