Jonathan Bernier made 25 saves, and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1 at Little Caesars Arena.
Vili Saarijarvi gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 4:39 of the first period. Dominic Turgeon made it 2-0 with a shorthanded goal at 11:12.
Carl Grundstrom cut it to 2-1 at 1:44 of the second period, but Matt Puempel scored at 8:55 to make it 3-1. Martin Frk extended the Red Wings lead to 4-1 with a power-play goal at 12:42.
Libor Sulak made it 5-1 on the power play at 10:37 of the third period.
Detroit was 3-for-3 on the power play.
Curtis McElhinney made 32 saves for Toronto, which was 0-7 on the power play.
