John Tavares had a goal and two assists for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 5-1 win against the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center on Tuesday.
Nazem Kadri scored two power-play goals, and Morgan Rielly had a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs (12-6-0), who have won four of their past five games and improved to 7-1-0 on the road with the victory in the first of a three-game California trip.
“I think our whole team came out ready to play,” said Toronto forward Mitchell Marner, who had two assists. “We came out fast and we made it hard on their D.”
Frederik Andersen made 22 saves to win his fourth straight start.
Peter Budaj was pulled after allowing four goals on 19 shots in his first start for the Kings since Jack Campbell sustained a knee injury in a 1-0 loss to the Calgary Flames on Saturday. Cal Petersen made his NHL debut replacing Budaj in the second period and made 15 saves.
