David Nonis, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Monday the hockey club has signed defenceman Carl Gunnarsson to a three-year contract.
Gunnarsson, 26, played 37 games for the Leafs this past season collecting one goal and 14 assists for 15 points along with 14 minutes in penalties. He ranked third on the Leafs in average ice-time per game (21:16) and fifth in plus/minus (+5). The native of Orebro, Sweden played all seven playoff games for the Leafs and collected one assist.
In 224 career NHL regular season games, all with the Leafs, Gunnarsson has registered 69 points (12 goals, 57 assists) and 58 penalty minutes. The Leafs originally selected the 6-2, 196-pound defenceman with their sixth choice, 189th overall, in the 2007 Entry Draft.
