Ian Mendes of Sportsnet: On Daniel Alfredsson trade rumors: “But I can tell you unequivocally, the captain isn’t going anywhere this season. In fact, you can make the argument that Alfredsson has been so good lately, that he should certainly come back for another season with the Senators in 2013-14. But that’s another blog for another day. Today’s piece is about officially putting an end to any trade talk that has surrounded Alfredsson — even though it was way too premature to begin with.”
Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun: The latest rumors have Jarome Iginla being traded to any of the Penguins, Bruins, Kings, Canucks, Flyers or Red Wings. Trade rumors around Jay Bouwmeester involve the Red Wings, Flyers, Blues and Senators. Jarome Iginla on blocking the rumors out,
“I don’t find it hard,” he insisted. “At the beginning, I said the reason (I didn’t want to talk about rumours) is because it doesn’t help the team.
“Then, we start asking each other different questions. I’m going to stick to that and just focus on the games.”
Also in the rumor mill are Miikka Kiprusoff, Matt Stajan, Lee Stempniak, Curtis Glencross, and Mark Giordano.
“I don’t listen to the rumours or anything like that. I know it’s out there and people talk about it, but no one really knows anything,” said Bouwmeester, who has a no-trade clause and is signed for one more season before becoming an unrestricted free-agent.
George Johnson of the Calgary Herald: The Blackhawks and Maple Leafs are reportedly showing interest in Flames Miikka Kiprusoff. He has one year left on his deal with a salary of only $1.5 million.
“I’ve been traded once in my life” — from San Jose to the Flames back in 2003 — “and it was probably the best thing that happened in my hockey life,” Kiprusoff mused. “But, like I say, I just try to do my job here. That’s it.”
Josh Rimer via twitter: Bill Watters on NiteCap said he still believes the Maple Leafs will trade for Roberto Luongo. Watters added that he can see either Mike Komisarek or John-Michael Liles and Tyler Bozak for Luongo.
Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: Stars Derek Roy has battled injuries the past two seasons. He now seems to be going and there is talk that he could be traded. Both sides confirmed there is no update on a possible contract extension. If nothing changes there is a good chance he’s dealt.
“I understand the situation, and you never know what can happen, so I just concentrate on my game,” Roy said. “It’s fine, honestly. I just try to work on my game, and everything will figure itself out. I want to play better, I want us to win games, and if that happens, then I’ll be happy. I’ll adjust to whatever else happens, but I just believe that if I play well and if I help my team play well, then everything else will fall into place.”
Andy Strickland via twitter: There is still a trade market for Blues goalie Brian Elliott if they choose to go down the path. Teams still remember how he played last season.
David Pollalk via twitter: The no-trade clause that is in Sharks Dan Boyle’s contract is reportedly not absolute at this point. There are reasons for him to be wary.
Katie Strang of ESPN: Sources confirm that the Rangers have interest in defenseman Dan Boyle. Though the Sharks are in the playoff hunt, it’s believed that a handful of players are available for the right price. The Rangers are not opposed to adding someone who is not a rental. Boyle carries a $6.66 million cap hit. The Sharks are looking to add some youth to their lineup, but the Rangers may be reluctant to move their youth. The Sharks would need to take some salary back due to Boyle’s cap number. Strang notes that Marian Gaborik could add some speed to the Sharks lineup. Boyle has a limited no-trade and it’s not known if the Rangers are on his eight team no-trade list. Boyle has said he wants to stay in San Jose,
“This is where I want to be. I don’t want to be anywhere else,” Boyle told Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com on Wednesday morning in Edmonton. “It’s not fun to hear that.”
